There is honey in the water,

and a kindness in your eye.

There’s so much laughter in this house,

This home we’ve built, you and I.

He is this house I’m building.

He is the hardest work I’ve known.

And these, two lilies from our flowerbed

complete this tiny garden we call home.

Commentary: This is such a tiny poem, but it has the biggest part of my world contracted into it. For the longest time it was a single verse, celebrating my husband and the great, sturdy thing we are building together, filling with laughter and adventure and forgiveness and projects, but then I realised it wasn't complete without our two girls making at least a guest appearance in the last two lines.
